WEEKEND TRAVEL

The Academy of the Holy Family offers transportation to the Old Saybrook train station or the Long Island Ferry for those students going to New York, Boston, or other locations for the weekend.  Each student must purchase a transportation ticket or book of tickets and present it to the driver to travel.  If the student does not purchase a ticket then she will have to make alternate arrangements for transportation (i.e. a taxi).  Free transportation is offered for all scheduled vacations and long weekends.  The train times are as follows:

  • Shoreline East:

Depart Old Saybrook on Friday (times vary according to fall schedule) to Union Station New Haven then transfer to Metro-North Railroad.   Depart New Haven at 5:35 pm to arrive at Grand Central Terminal at 7:18 pm.  Arrive back in Old Saybrook at 2:47 pm on Sunday or Monday if it is a holiday.

  • Amtrak:

Depart Old Saybrook at 5:15 pm towards New York or 4:08 pm towards Boston.  Arrive back in Old Saybrook at 3:07 pm from New York or 1:38 pm from Boston on Sunday or Monday if it is a holiday.

  • Long Island Ferry:

Depart New London at 4:00 pm on Friday and arrive back in New London at 4:00 pm on Sunday or Monday if it is a holiday.

  • Transportation will be provided on Thursday if the holiday falls on a Friday with the return date being on Sunday.

Please note that no transportation will be provided for students who leave for vacation early on the official travel days.  Students are expected to be in school.  Students will not be picked up at the airport or train station/Ferry after 9 pm.  Students arriving in Boston must be there by 6 pm.  Your daughter may be asked to wait for a ride if she arrives too early and others will be coming in later.
