Philosophy - The introductory Computer Science courses are designed to give the student the basic skills needed during their high school and college years – word processing and desktop publishing, spreadsheet design (math and science), problem solving and logic. The advanced classes expand upon what they have already learned, and challenge the student to apply their knowledge by completing special projects that benefit the Academy of the Holy Family community.

Introduction to Computer Applications
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the capabilities of the Microsoft Office suite so that they may use these programs as expected of them in future classes, across all subjects. Students will become proficient in the Microsoft Windows operating system environment and will demonstrate proficiency in Word, Publisher, Excel and PowerPoint. By the end of this one semester course, the student should be able to create various types of letters, reports, flyers, brochures, spreadsheets, charts and video slideshows. Sufficient time will be given for students to complete the assignment during regular class periods. They will also be exposed to career possibilities and the discussion of ethical issues relating to computer and Internet usage. This course is open to freshmen and sophomores.
Advanced Computer Applications
This course can be taken as either a full semester, one credit course or full semester, half credit course meeting every other day. The course will cover the topics of desktop publishing, multimedia graphics, video editing, website design, computer hardware and networking, programming and robotics.
Introduction to Computer Programming
This single semester, half credit course will introduce students to the basics of computer programming and problem solving using the Pascal programming language. Students will develop the computer science skills of algorithm development, problem solving, and programming while using software engineering principles. This course is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors.
